The Death Of The Weavers,
The Birth Of A Mystery

from The Weaver Code by John W Balfour

The Weavers believed each individual was a thread in the "Loom Of Destiny" and a weaver of their own destiny, their goal being to disentangle themselves from snares of materialism, power and ego.

Because they strongly believed the one should live by the work of one’s own hands, they stood against the industrialisation and materialism of Western Culture and instead specialised in ‘hand-crafts’ such as weaving. But weaving was not only a profession and an art and a spiritual practice. It was also a cover for their activies. It allowed them to amass a lot of money, build trade links and move freely across Europe without persecution,

There was also another, hidden reason for their focus on weaving: it allowed them preserve and transmit their teachings and philosophies secretly through secret codes. It became for them a symbolic artform which came to shape their activities and the key characteristics of their group: weaving, codes and secrecy. One, I maintain in my book The Weaver Code, is still maintained to this day. But in a radically different form...

Unfortunately for the Weavers, their strongly held beliefs also led them to reject much of Christian religion of the 12th Century. They rejected Jesus as the son of God. The Resurrection. The Virgin Birth. The Cruifixion. Hell. Judgement Day. Christmas. Easter. The power of prayer. Relics. And most of the Bible. They also believed women were equals and condemned the blatant mysogny of the Catholic church.

Understandably, their views provoked extreme displeasure from the Church and made the Weavers outcasts in Catholic society. (Despite the fact that several key Christians - and I think of Augustine and Origen Adamantius - were Manicheans and Gnostic-influenced before undergoing conversion).

This rejection eventually led to their being branded heretics by Pope Innocent II in 1204. A violent and bloody crusade followed. Most of the Weavers were massacred. A group of survivors, numbering 250, took refuge in the ancient Chateau de Montsegur in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Their last citadel, said to be secret repository of their incalculable treasures and secret mystical teachings. After a 10 month siege, on March 16, 1244, they surrendered but still refused to give up their faith. Every man, woman and child was burnt alive by the knights beseiging the castle.

Persistent rumours from the time and in local folklore talk of “mysterious treasures” and “secret relics” (“le tresor cathar”) that somehow survived the seige. Some say a group of priests smuggled the objects out. Other say the Weavers buried the treasure or somehow disguised it.

I believe I have discovered what these treasures are and what they mean. Find out how I discovered The Weaver Code.

The Castle itself is a fascinating building. Resting atop of a carved stone cliff face in Southern France, it seems to be part of a very ancient complex of religious buildings. The Cliff begins at the north west, near the cliff Crosette and rock Peregate, and seems to take the form of an ancient great pyramid. Its surface is covered with equal-sided crosses made in stones.

The layout of Montsegur differs a lot from the structure of other castles of the region. Its outer wall is pentagon shaped with elongated sides. A donjon rectangular shape is near the smallest side. The combination of these two symbols - pentagram and double rectangular shows that Montsegur is closer to a temple than a castle.

Intriguingly the main elements are bult in a line which directs to the point of the winter solstice. On December 21st, 2012 is the Winter solstice and also the date when our solar system will be aligned with Galactic Centre for the first time in 26,000 years.

In fact, using precise measurements of architectural plans, I have concluded that the last citadel of the Weavers is something of a “Rosetta Stone” for the decryption of the codes in Weavers cloths.
