from The Weaver Code by John W Balfour
The letters I extracted from decryption of The Weavers overshot process didn’t make sense. The ancient code-masters didn’t make it easy! The Weavers were artful weavers and masters of cryptology. To protect their secrets, they fitted not just one extra layer into their codes but three.
Take the detail on this cloth for example. This full cloth measures 4.4 x 1.1 m (14.3 x 13.7 feet). I quote these measurements exactly as no mathematical detail can be overlooked when dealing with the Weavers proto-technology. The pattern is woven into three-to-one herringbone twill composed of flax fibrilis. The exact same material and density as the Shroud Of Turin! Here's a close-up:

In this cloth, I have found that the Weavers used a 40 byte key to encode their secrets. That’s a huge key - virtually uncrackable. The number of code combinations with 40 byte key, assuming a full character set, is 255 to the power of 40. If all the world’s supercomputers were set in this task to decode it, it would take over 50 years doing 10 to the power 18 tries a day. If every computer on Earth was tasked 24 hours to decode the key, it would still take over 8 years to come up with the solution.
Here’s the genius part: they stored the key in the non-imperfect sections of cloth. Again, I cannot go into too much detail. All will be revealed in my book. But this stroke of genius allowed me to limit my exploration and then extract the base codes from the cloth.
But even then I still needed the code table. For this I turned to the geometric measurements of the Montsegur Castle in Languedoc. Without giving away my methods too precisely, I took the geometric proportion of the pentagram-shaped castle walls and the recentagular outhouse.
The revealed letters began to take on the shape of words and sentences but still they did not make sense. Then I remembered - The Weavers did not speak Latin. They spoke Occitan, a French dialect of Latin, significantly different in vocabulary and syntax. When this knowledge was applied, finally the Weaver messages begin to swim into focus.
Of course in today’s world Truth is hard to come down. Not just because of the overwhelming mass of informaiton, but also due to Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle. It postulates that in measuring something you change it slightly. That’s inevitable.
Nevertheless I was able to begin to distill entire sections of the Weaver’s codex.
What was revealed was incredible, baffling and deeply deeply worrying...
